History

In January 2019, Senior Pastor Joan E. Carter-Rimbach of John Wesley United Methodist Church, answered a calling on her to create an outlet and alternative to negative forces facing the Youth of Baltimore. Pastor Carter-Rimbach did not have to look very far. John Wesley United Methodist Church, a beautiful historical church built in 1920, was a large church with excess space for usage. Putting the calling and space together, Pastor Carter-Rimbach decided she would create a youth center.

To build on the vision of a youth center the Pastor needed a name. After many thoughts, the spirit prevailed. The name needed to be embedded in hope. Enter agape, a Greco-Christian term referring to love, the highest form of Love, charity and the Love of God for man and of man for God. Agape Youth Center is named.

Pastor Carter-Rimbach surveyed the space at John Wesley United Method Church on the second level and felt purposing each room would be best. The room divisions would be the Hub is the information and central site for the center, the Computer Lab allows Youth access to the internet for research, the Library houses hardcopy books, the Work Stations provides an area for Youth tutoring and homework, Got Game has table games such as ping-pong and pool tables, and Game On is a room with large screen television video games.

A team was developed to officially establish the Agape Youth Center and parent organization, Agape Youth Foundation, as an entity in the State of Maryland and City of Baltimore.
